Chicago — The mainstream media and other outlets reported on Thursday that United States Customs and Border Protection had detained three U.S. citizen children at Chicago O’Hare Airport. The reports were published in the middle of a currently hostile immigration environment, most notably due to President Donald Trump cracking down on the Southern Border and illegal immigration, along with the announcement of a new policy for asylum seekers.
In a tweet response to the allegations, CBP responded by saying, “There are false reports circulating that CBP is detaining 3 US citizen children at O’Hare. The children arrived with a Mexican citizen that was deemed inadmissible. By law, they could only be released to a parent/legal guardian. Their mother has picked them up without incident.”
A CBP spokesperson provided more details about the situation in a statement to Politically DC, “This morning a Mexican citizen arrived at Chicago O’Hare International Airport escorting three U.S. citizen children. Upon arrival, CBP officers deemed the adult female inadmissible. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers attempted numerous times to reach family members to pick up the children. At 4:00pm the mother picked up her children without incident.”
